With insane horsepower and monster torque, the APS Intercooled Twin Turbo High Output System performs like a strong 9L Big Block and raises the G8 GT into the supercar club! It is a straight forward, bolt on, and totally engineered system that utilizes the latest in water cooled turbocharger technology along with the industry's largest bar and plate intercooler. APS delivers a system that results in outrageous power and torque right across the entire RPM range.
Right from the start, APS set out to deliver a thoroughly engineered, high horsepower, intercooled twin turbo system for the new G8 - and with over 25 years of turbocharging and intercooling experience, APS has produced what is arguably the ultimate intercooled twin turbo system for this model Pontiac. Better still, APS has paid particular attention to ensure that the installation process is as easy and straight forward as possible.
The APS Twin Turbo Kit has helped our INTENSE TT G8 GT produce 723 rwhp on pump gas and has helped elevate our flagship daily driver to supercar status!
APS Twin Turbo System Intercooler
APS has designed and manufactured a custom configured, vertical flow high efficiency intercooler utilizing custom designed light weight cast aluminium end tanks. Extremely high flow rates and massive charge air temperature reduction - a level of performance that other manufacturers can only aspire to achieve.
With a huge 600mm x 235mm x 100mm (24” x 9.25” x 4”) drag race specification bar and plate core, at 675 kW (900 hp) flywheel, the pressure drop is less than 1 psi. At the same turbocharger flow conditions, under full engine load the intercooler outlet temperature is less than 15°F higher than ambient, at any vehicle speed over 100 kph (60 mph). Truly outstanding results at such a huge horsepower level. So just like the APS turbochargers and twin cold air intakes, the APS intercooler system has massive additional headroom available for even higher power levels.
The true dual entry design of the APS intercooler system allows for the ultimate in true equal length balanced ducting from each turbocharger to the intercooler. This ensures the optimum utilisation of the intercooler core by spreading the charge air from each turbocharger evenly across the entire intercooler core - This is efficiency at its best!
APS Twin Turbo System Wastegates
The APS external wastegates deliver a dedicated path for the diverted exhaust gas to bypass the turbocharger's turbine, hence creating the physical basis for a highly responsive and extremely stable boost management strategy that is designed to bypass massive amounts of exhaust gas from each turbocharger.
A great degree of flexibility is also offered with this wastegate configuration. With a simple change of the wastegate spring specification, a variety of boost pressures can be set - from 5 psi all the way through to over 20 psi. In addition, a separate and optional electronic boost controller can easily be fitted to the wastegate control hoses in order to deliver real-time boost control from the cockpit.
Our current setup uses .5 BAR springs (about 7psi boost) for minimum boost settings and we increase boost with an AEM Tru Boost boost controller.
