Sept 2023 -- Due to recent changes in reseller agreements, INTENSE Racing will no longer be stocking or reselling HPTuners products. We still use them, and suggest that you buy their products directly from their website. But it doesn't make business sense for us to stock them going forward.

What can an INTENSE PCM/HP Tuners package do for you?

Since 2001 INTENSE has brought PCM Tuning to the late model GM FWD community. Our INTENSE PCM tunes are based on our knowledge gained from working on our INTENSE 3800 Project Cars which have held many quarter mile and speed records including the first FWD and RWD 8 second 1/4 mile passes.

Air/Fuel adjustments along with ignition timing tweaks and the reduction of excessive torque management produce a realistic and repeatable gains. Fan point changes in conjunction with a cooler thermostat help the cooling system keep the extra heat in check and we also enable the cooling fans to run at key-off under certain conditions. INTENSE tunes produce the hardest launching 3800's and while you won’t see these changes on the dyno, you’ll definitely feel them the first time you leave hard from a stop.

The included HP Tuners VCM Suite is a comprehensive VCM/PCM programmer and parameter editor. VCM Editors Flash utility allows the user to read the VCM/PCM flash memory and save it to a binary file. The Flash utility allows a valid calibration to be written to the VCM/PCM and also incorporates an automatic VCM/PCM recovery capabilities for ultimate protection against any reflashing problems that may be encountered.

The VCM Editor also allows modification of the saved binary image. The VCM Editor allows all parameters such as Spark, Fuel, RPM Limits, FAN Temps, Transmission Shift points and pressures, Speedometer settings and many, many more. The editor provides an easy to use graphical interface and many powerful table manipulation capabilities such as copying, scaling and shifting to name a few.

The addition of the HP Tuners Suite to this package allows our 3800 customers the ability to install our provided base programming upgrade and have the ability update their PCM code by themselves at any time for any reason. Use our base code as a start and the package can grow with your modifications. If you install a cam or change a throttle body you can easily update your code for these changes. If you want changes to be made by us it is as simple as requesting an update, paying the charge and we email you an updated binary which you can immediately install.

Finally, the logging utility of the HP Tuners VCM Suite makes a great evaluation tool for determing how your car is reacting to newly installed mods or for diagnosing issues.

    How hard is the PCM to install?
    When you order this package we ship you a standard HP Tuners VCM Suite. Once you have this installed on your laptop and read the binary out of your car you email us the binary to sales@intense-racing.com. We will then modify the binary with our code updates and email it back to you. Simply flash it into the car and you are all set.

    What do I need to do after installing a new INTENSE PCM?
    Unlike our physical INTENSE 3800 PCM offering no Crankshaft Relarn or Security Learn needs to be performed. Simply flash the binary into the car and enjoy.

    What comes with the package?  
    Physical shipment includes the HPTuners MPVI 2 interface and a USB drive with VCM Editor and VCM Scanner software.  Package also includes two license credits to allow connection to one PCM.  Additional credits can be purchased at a discount through us or at list price ($49.99 each) through HPTuners.  Most vehicles need two credits to license.  In addition to the HPTuners products, you will receive a custom edit of your downloaded vehicle file, custom tailored to your mods and preferences.

    What hardware and software does INTENSE use to do PCMs ?
    We use a combination of GM SPS, EASE, TIS and HP Tuners Professional hardware and software. We do not lock our programming and this allows you to use software such as HP Tuners to modify your code in the future.

    How does your PCM compare to other brands?
    Notice in our before and after tune that the "after" air/fuel is almost textbook. WOT ignition timing is also optimized.

    Some tuners only change a couple of settings. Here at INTENSE, we know GM tuning inside and out. Here is a partial list of the tables we change in our base G8 tunes. Some of these tables contain dozens of fields, so our typical G8 tune will have approximately 200 changes.

  • Target idle speed table (for park, neutral and in gear) MAF calibration table (airflow versus frequency)
  • Power enrichment table (equivalency ratio versus engine speed)
  • Main spark advance table (high octane)
  • Base upshift time tables (special mode)
  • Upshift time inertia adder tables (special mode)
  • Downshift time inertia adder tables (special mode)
  • Cooling fan run time (at key-off)
  • Engine coolant temperature zone tables (for fan modes)
  • Fan desired tables (percentage versus ECT)
  • Speed limiters (all set to 255 mph)

    Do you lock your PCMs?
    No. Unlike our some of our competitors we do not lock our programming which can cause problems down the road if you want to make changes or purchase an editor like HP Tuners. If you have HP Tuners or any other programmer you will be able to read, modify and write to your PCM at any point, for any reason.

    Will your PCM affect my fuel economy?
    Not directly, no. If you enjoy the performance gains, you're likely to drive the car harder, and this will reduce your fuel economy. But we don't change any light throttle parameters at all.

    Why don't you make light throttle changes for fuel economy improvements?
    We do not believe that we are smarter than G.M. powertrain engineers in this area.
