A coilover is an automobile suspension device, short for "coil over strut". It consists of a shock absorber with a coil spring encircling it. This provides for optimal damping without torsional loads. It also allows for pre-loading of the suspension by biasing the corner weights as needed. This is exceptionally useful with road racing or autocrossing, as well as helping bias weight toward the front of the car for launches at the strip.
Coilovers are the best way to lower your W-body vehicle while increasing the handling and control. Using modified KYB GR-2 struts, our INTENSE coilovers come complete and ready to bolt on. Installation requires ordinary hand tools and can be done by anyone with average skill. Once installed the suspension will be adjustable for ride height and balance.
With ride height adjusters you will be able to lower your W-body vehicle 2+ inches from the factory ride height without a loss of suspension performance. With tire and fender well clearances accounted for additional drop heights are possible. We include a spanner wrench to adjust the heights of the coilovers and the rear coilover set can be agressively tightened to help negate weight transfer during track runs.
As an option, you can have coilover sets built with KYB AGX Adjustable struts. They allow adjustment of the damping rate on the strut while on the car, helping you to tune the rebound of your springs for the street or the track.
Some 2003+ W body cars connected the front sway bar end link to the strut body (look behind your wheel to check). If you want to run front coilovers there is no provision to connect the end link to the coilover strut. Most customers will then swap their lower control arms for the 98-03 design, which had a tab to bolt the end link to. The other option is to remove the front sway bar completely, but that's usually not preferable.
During fabrication, we repaint the strut body. Springs and related hardware are a mix of anodized silver and black. If you want a color other than the default silver on the strut body, please select it above.
Special Notes:
- - A shipping delay of 5-7 business days should be expected as these are built to order.
- - INTENSE recommends that you periodically check your coilovers for debris between the spring and end plates. Buildup can occur which can eventually cause squeaks.
- - The rear sway bar must be deleted when installing the rear pair of coilovers unless the rear sway bar option is purchased.
- - INTENSE recommends that an alignment be done after installation.
- - You can expect a 16lb weight savings per pair switching to these from stock.
